The Tsotsi is basically a hi-tech Gentle Lady with modern airfoils using bagged glass skins over foam cores. Fiberglass fuselage with built up rudder and stabilizer. Really easy to fly and a lot more durable than balsa models. It is a good model for a beginner.
The SD7032 section is a real floater and will outclimb just about anything in a thermal. (I love this airfoil)
The SD7037 is a de-cambered version of the previous airfoil and can therefore penetrate better but still maintain decent thermal characteristics. (A nice middle of the range section)
The AG25 to 27 sections are thinner than the above so can penetrate very well and they still have pretty good thermal characteristics. (My second favorite. Gets form thermal to thermal with minimal height loss. Lands fast though.)
The AG16 to 18 are even thinner and is the fastest of all. I have only built one so far and not flown it much so don't have a lot of data yet.
I use a full depth pre made carbon sheer web from two layers of 200 gram cloth at 45 degrees and Carbon spars top and bottom laid into sanded groves in the foam cores. My last test at nearly full winch power folded the wing at the center when I tried the zoom. Another lesson learned and I will be reinforcing the center section even more from now on. BTW the center panels are bagged as one with the dihedral set and the carbon spars going right through for poly joint to poly joint.
The all up flying weight of the Tsotsi is around the 1kg mark, but can be made a lot lighter with micro gear. We have found that in the 1 kg range they fly best. Piet's is currently at 1,2 kg and still thermals nicely. The fuselage and fin right out of the mould weighs in at about 175 grams. The wing, depending on which section is anywhere from 385 to 435 grams.
